Four Oaks Fishery Fun Day!!

On Sunday the 9th on August we held the Pete Baker Memorial Charity Match at Four Oaks Fishery, with all the proceeds going to the kids charity HAPPY DAYS. We had a great day and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part. Luckily the weather was great (a few sunburnt shoulders!) and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. We are very proud to say we raised a fabulous 300 pounds- so well done everyone!

We held the Kids competition on Petes pool and they all did very well. Regular Matty Dawes took the title netting a great 9.12lb on peg 2. Runner up was young Luke Gethins, who bagged 6.4lb on the highly envied peg 1. Arran Aldham took 3rd place with 4.5lb of silver fish. We would also like to thank Luke Clowes, Davie Kirby, Liam Perry, Scott Smith and 6 year old Gus Schofield for taking part. They all received a goody bag courtesy of Screamer baits which included baits, hooks, disgorgers and hats, as well as medals for taking part.

The Heron Pit was the venue for the adult match, which saw 20 eagerly competitive anglers fight for 1st place. This went to Bob Edwards of Ellesmere Port who bagged up with an impressive 18.10lb on peg number 22. His catch included carp to 7lb and a 4lb bream. Les Jones was placed in 2nd place with a 9.llb bag taken on peg 19, he was followed by Steve Hughes on peg 11 who had a mixed bag to 7.8lb.

The raffle, and the winning prizes, were a great success. We gave away some amazing goodies including whisky, wines, chocolates, beer, cooler bags stocked with baits, a brand new pole, reel, seat box, fishing books, fishing passes and vouchers for family days out.

We would like to thank everyone who donated to this worthwhile cause including: Screamer Baits, Cheshire Angling Centre, Fisheries Direct, Mrs E Baker, Four Oaks Farm & Livery, Keith at Farming Crisis Network, Stapley Water Gardens, Chester Boat Tours, Crocky Trail, and Read-Write.

Big thanks again to you all,
Suzie at Four Oaks Fishery

Hi, and Welcome to the Four Oaks Fishery Newsletter for the Spring 2009Season

Pete's Pool has yet again fished consistently well this winter, with lots of silver fish being caught on maggot and caster. Coarse pellets and worm have worked a treat for regular Bob Wilson from Saughall. He fought with the winters frosty spells and on many occasions had to break the ice, but still caught well once again using pellet. Youngster Matty Dawes of Broughton, netted this mixed bag of carp and silver fish on a dull bleak day, to single maggot. Proof that you really don't need to use big-baits to land big catches of fish! Mike Hayes is also a fan of Petes Pool and his determination to catch that big one paid off when he landed a 11.5lb Mirror to bread.

The Heron Pit has also been giving anglers a challenging time with silver-fish and the odd nice sized carp starting to make an appearance. The fishing on the Heron Pit wasn't easy given the long spells of frost we had, but Pete Willets of Chester continuously tried his luck on peg 23, his efforts paid off with a good bag of mixed silver fish, taken to chopped worm and pellet. Pegs 8,9 10 & 11 have been throwing up some good catches of fish, the popular baits being caster, maggot and coarse pellets, which the fish cant resist. Many of you will know that last year the Heron Pit was suffering from Water Lilly overboard, we are happy to say that this problem has been professionally treated and will open up some pegs that were unfish-able last year. Dont worry there is still a good coverage of Lillie's so the carp still have a good hiding place!!!!
